What are Keywords?

If you are interested in building your own website, or perhaps re-building your current site yourself to rid the high cost of a programmer built website, then you need to be familiar with keywords.

Keywords are simply words that people are searching for online.

More than that, they are the ROAD THAT LEADS PEOPLE TO YOUR WEBSITE.

Are Keywords Important?

Keywords help you identify what people are searching for, and tell you how you can help them find it.

Find the right keywords by using the appropriate tool, and your website will rank higher in the search engines, which will result in increased traffic to your website.

Introducing Jaaxy, the BEST Keyword Search Tool

When searching for QUALITY keywords, there are some very important metrics that you’ll want to consider.

Keyword MetricsTHE 5 METRICS:

1. Avg

This is the estimated number of people, per month, typing those words into their browser to search for something. ANY traffic is good traffic, and a larger number is good, so long as the competition is not too high. (We’ll look at competition numbers in a moment)

2. Traffic

This is the average number of visits to your website, if you rank on the first page of the search engine. So, out of the total number of people who searched for your keyword, this is the number of people who actually clicked through to your website URL for more information.

3. The Quoted Search Results (QSR)

It is extremely important to pay attention to this metric. This is the number of competing websites that are already ranked in Google for those EXACT keywords. So, if the keywords you are researching have a high Avg and high Traffic, that’s great IF they also have a low QSR. If the QSR is higher than 100, then you’ll want to keep searching. Try a variation of those keywords instead.

4. The Keyword Quality Indicator (KQI)

This is an instant test that you run (takes two seconds), that responds with a color coded rank.

GREEN is Great = Use it!

YELLOW is Okay = Maybe use it (but keep looking for a Green!)

RED is Poor = Too much competition! Your website is not likely to be ranked anywhere to be found using those keywords. Try a new search with related words.

5. SEO

This is a score on a scale of 1 to 100, based on both traffic and competition, that indicates how likely your website is to rank on the first page for those chosen keywords. The higher the number, the better. Typically, you want to shoot for above 90 here.

How to Find the RIGHT Keywords for your Website

SEO Keywords

There are 3 MAIN RULES to follow to find the right keywords for your website:

1. Choose keywords that are getting TRAFFIC. Again, ANY traffic is GOOD traffic. It’s totally fine to have a traffic of 50. If there are only 7 competing websites (QSR of 7), then you will be ranked on the first page! It is better to choose keywords that have less traffic, and low competition, than high traffic with a ton of competition. Remember, if the competition is too high, you won’t get ranked, and therefore, you won’t see any traffic.

2. Choose keywords that have LOW COMPETITION. These keywords are called “low hanging fruit.” They may not have the best traffic numbers, but there is little competition which almost guarantees that you will rank on the first page of search results. Take these all day long over the alternative. If a keyword search returns an Avg of 500, but the QSR is 271, then your content will never be seen. If a keyword search returns an Avg of 347, and the QSR is 20, run with it!

3. Choose keywords that MAKE SENSE grammatically. If there is a phrase you see in the list that does’t make grammatical sense, then DON’T use it. Remember, you are writing content for your readers, not for the search engines. So, yes, you want words and phrases that provide strong metrics, but you need words and phrases that make sense to your readers.

For Example: a Keyword Search for “tough dog toys” may return…

  • large tough dog toys
  • tough dog toys for large dogs
  • tough dog toys aggressive chewers  X

The first two suggestions are good options, at least grammatically. (I don’t know the numbers, this is an example) Both are phrases that you would naturally use in a sentence. That is what you want.

The third suggestion is NOT good. Why? Because if you were to actually use that phrase in a sentence, you would say “tough dog toys FOR aggressive chewers.” Grammatically, the suggestion above is incorrect. So, don’t use it.

It’s that easy.
